Thank You. Keep Safe. Be Strong.
I wanted to put "pen to paper" so to speak in this blog, to thank those people who have allowed Life of Riley to literally keep calm and carry on, in these unprecedented times. I hope you and your loved ones are all safe and in good health and adapting to our new way of life.
Early on, I took the decision to keep my business open as long as the government allowed us to and to give our customers the opportunity to send beautiful gifts to friends and family directly.
Very quickly many of my team were able to run their departments from their kitchen, study or lounge. The office was stripped of computers and pen pots and in trays whisked away to their new homes...
Josie had to buy a new desk as she combined the excitement of moving into a new flat with working from home. From here she has started planning our fabulous Autumn catalogue and is constantly thinking about how to delight you with the look and feel of our website.
Rebecca steadies the helm, keeping a close eye on our sales, promotions and emailers. Subscribe to our newsletter to receive our next special offer...
Fliss has erected a white light box tent literally in the middle of her garden room to photograph our new exciting Outlet stock, even messaging customers who want to see the stock before it lands on the site! Competitions on social media are hatched here and a sprinkling of positivity is shared daily on Instagram Stories.
Nicola has contacted all our wonderful shops which we supply, many of whom we have worked with for over a decade. They are all remarkably positive. We are in this together. We are supporting each other as best we can: holding stock for when the shops reopen and sending items directly to their customers across the world.
And to the new "recruits": my husband who has embraced our personalisation service and while on a steep learning curve, he has taken to the skill like a duck to water. Thankfully Jo was able to leave us detailed instructions and guidelines for how to emboss each gift perfectly.
And my teenage son who helped me unpack the container of stock that arrived recently from India. Usually, a 5 man job but 3 family members just had to work harder and faster!
I'm maintaining the daily routine at our warehouse and office which is only a mile from where I live. I work on my own in the warehouse picking and packing orders, answering the phone and replying to customer messages. With lots of hand washing in between. It can be quiet at times without the office chatter but we have regular team catch ups and there is always a to-do list and things we wish to improve, which pushes us on.
In particular, I want to thank Gaz our fantastic and reliable DHL courier. Every day without fail he arrives with a big smile and safely collects all our parcels that are shipped globally, even in these times.
We are grateful to Antonio who arrives every day, 5pm prompt, to collect Royal Mail post and will always offer a treat to our Head Guard Dog, Joe if he is well behaved...
Without DHL and Royal Mail operating we would not be able to operate so a huge thank you to them and the service they deliver!
And finally to my wonderful manufacturer in India who is in very strict lockdown. We wish them well and are thinking of our extended team at this difficult time.
While we are reeling from the shock at the human tragedy caused during this terrible pandemic, through teamwork there is hope.
Our customers have been so lovely and patient. We have received so many compliments and messages of thanks over the last few weeks which really boosts our morale.
So Thank You. Keep Safe. Be Strong.
